The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball team ran their win streak to 18 games with a 56-29 win over Towanda on Wednesday, January 31.
Despite a slow start the Hornets overcame another rough shooting night. Wellsboro jumped out to a 17-8 lead after the first quarter, then outscored the Black Knights 12-4 in the second to lead 29-12 at halftime.
Wellsboro kept rolling in the second halfand outscored the Black Knight 27-17 for the win.
Junior Brandyn Tuttle led Wellsboro on the night with his 14th double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Dalton Prough was also in double figures on the night with 14 points, including going a perfect 4-for-4 from the foul line. Prough also grabbed 5 rebounds, made 3 steals, had 2 assists and blocked a shot.
Senior Quinn Henry finished with 9 points, senior Collin Pietropola had 7, junior Tanner Button scored 3, and juniors Holden Kennedy, Bergen Weiner, and Hunter Brown all finished with 2 points each.
Brown added 6 rebounds, Pietropola grabbed 4 rebounds and had 2 steals, and Henry and Ingeick both finished with 3 rebounds and 2 assists.
Wellsboro started out the night with in 37-29 win in the JV game to improve to 11-7. Sophomore Karter Witmer led the way with 10 points while sophomore Andrew Larson and Billy Lechler each chipped in with 7 points.
The win improves the Varsity team's record to 19-1 (14-0 NTL Large School Division). The team will be back in action at home on Friday, February 2 against Athens.
