The Wellsboro Golf team started the 2018 season on a high note as they captured the team title at the Coudersport Invite on Thursday, August 16.
The Hornets shot 253 as a team and tied Elk County Catholic, but scored the win as Wellsboro's 4th golfer scored better than ECC's. Smethport shot 260 to take home 3rd.
Senior Ben Barnett shot a 79 to lead Wellsboro, followed by junior Joseph Propheta with an 84, junior Ty Morral (90), sophomore Brock Hamblin (99), and junior Daniel Mitchell (114).
"All the kids played well today. They all had at least one bad hole," said head coach Steve Macensky. "To compare to last year the scores the kids shot this year where better than last and all of them were not happy with their scores. They have set higher standards for themselves this year. We are looking forward to a very competitive season."
The Hornets begin league play next Tuesday, August 21 at Shepard Hills. Tee time is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
