The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball team won their 14th straight game by defeating North Penn-Liberty 67-36 on Friday, January 19.
The Hornets jumped out to an early 13-7 lead behind 7 points from senior Dalton Prough, then put the game away by outscoring the Mounties 22-6 in the second to lead 35-13 at halftime.
Wellsboro kept the pedal down to start the second half as they outscored Liberty 18-8 to lead 53-21 heading into the fourth quarter. Liberty outscored Wellsboro 15-14 in the final frame, but the Hornets' lead was too was much to overcome.
Prough led all scorers with a game-high 17 points and finished with 11 rebounds for a double-double. Senior Quinn Henry finished with 12, senior Collin Pietropola and junior Andrew Brelo scored 10 points each, junior Brandyn Tuttle had 9, senior Nic Ingerick scored 7, and junior Hunter Brown rounded out the scoring with 2 points.
Tuttle added 7 rebounds before fouling out, Henry had 4 assists and 4 steals, Pietropola had 5 rebounds, and Ingerick made 4 steals. Brown also grabbed 3 rebounds.
Liberty won the JV game 30-23 to drop the Hornets to 8-6.
The win improves the Varsity team's record to 15-1 (11-0 NTL Large School Division). The team will be back in action on Wednesday, January 24 against Williamson.
