The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball team scored their first win of the season as they traveled to Northeast Bradford and picked up a 63-45 victory on Wednesday, December 12.
After trailing 7-3 early on, shots started dropping for Wellsboro and their rallied to lead 16-13 after the first quarter. The Hornets cushioned their lead as they outscored NEB 15-11 in the second to take a 31-24 lead into the half, but then really pulled away in the third with an 18-9 quarter to lead 49-33 heading into the fourth quarter.
Wellsboro finished off the game with a 14-12 fourth quarter for coach Chase Kriner's first career Varsity win.
Senior Brandyn Tuttle recorded a double-double of 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Hornets while senior Tanner Button finished with 12 points and sophomore Joseph Grab had 11. Senior Holden Kennedy added 8 points off the bench, senior Andrew Brelo scored 7, senior Hunter Brown added 3, and junior Andrew Larson chipped in with 2.
Grab added 5 assists and 3 steals to his point total, Button had 5 assists and 2 steals, Kennedy had 4 assists, Brelo added 5 assists, and Brown grabbed 4 rebounds.
Northeast Bradford won the JV game 43-37. Junior Karter Witmer had 12 points to lead the Hornets while freshman Isaac Keane scored 11.
The win improves the Varsity team's record to 1-2 while the JV team starts their season off at 0-1. The team will be back in action on Friday, December 14 for their home opener against Williamson.
