The Wellsboro Middle School Basketball teams picked up wins over Cowanesque Valley on Wednesday, November 14 to both improve to 2-0 to start the season.
The boys A team won 45-12 behind 12 points from Conner Adams and 8 from Peyton McClure. The B team tied 27-27. Tyler Youells led the team with 8 points.
"It was a good team win," said head coach Steve Adams.
In the girls game the Lady Hornets beat CV 16-4 in the A game and edged the Lady Indians 16-13 in the B game.
Ella Posada had 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 steals; Jordyn Abernathy had 4 points, 5 rebounds, 5 steals, and 2 assists; Hailie Kerr had 2 points, 4 rebounds and 1 steal; Kambri Cleveland grabbed 5 rebounds; Madeline Mascho had 3 steals and Molly Ingerick grabbed 3 rebounds and 1 assist. Rylie Boyce had 5 rebounds, 4 steals, and 1 assist and Alyssa Bisbing grabbed 1 rebound.
Emily Richardson and Emily Pierce each scored 4 points in the B game while Emily Morris, Hannalee Cleveland, Hannah Gilmour, and Olivia Chilson each added 2 points each.
"Our girls played great defense tonight and we ran our offense against their zone pretty well, but we just couldn't make any shots (8/52)," said coach Darrell Morris. "I think once we settle in and learn to relax on those open looks, we will be a really good offensive team."
Both teams host North Penn-Liberty on Saturday, November 16.
