The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team had their 13-game win streak come to an end in a 3-0 loss to Athens on Monday, October 15.
Wellsboro's last loss came to Athens in a 1-0 game back on September 5.
After a 0-0 draw in the first half the Wildcats scored three second half goals to clinch at least a share of the NTL title.
"They were just better than us tonight," said head coach Todd Fitch. "You can only hold off a team of that quality for so long. We obviously did not have answers for breaking through their defense in order to take pressure off our defenders and create scoring opportunities. We are going to have to figure that out."
Willey Tilley scored the first goal in the 36th minute then Jesse Sumner scored back-to-back goals, one in the 13th and the other in the 7th minute, to complete the game.
Athens took 22 shots on goal and senior Nate Redell stopped 18 of them. Wellsboro's offense was held to just 2 shots of goal. The Wildcats also had a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Athens also won the JV game by shutout on the night, 1-0.
The loss drops the Hornets' record to 13-4 (10-2 NTL).
