The Wellsboro Middle School Girls Basketball team enacted revenge on North Penn-Liberty in a 21-10 win on Friday, March 10.
"Our girls came ready to play tonight and played an impressive game, especially on the defensive end of the floor," said head coach Darrell Morris. "Jena really shut down their point guard, who hurt us in our game against them last week, and the rest of the girls just worked so well together. It was a very good win for our team."
The young Lady Hornets jumped out to a 10-0 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. The Lady Mounties outscored Wellsboro 5-4 in the second quarter, but Wellsboro shut them down in the second half and held them 5 total points.
Jena Boyce had 7 points, 3 steals, and 4 assists; Kiyah Boyce had 6 points and 5 rebounds; Bailey Monks had 4 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 steals; Sarah Mosher had 2 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists; and Kathryn Burnett had 2 points.
Wellsboro's B team also picked up a 22-10 win to finish their season 8-1-2 under coach Kristen West.
"Coach West did a great job with our B team this year and they came a long way," commented Morris. "It was a very young and inexperienced group at the start of the season and they had a nice run and learned to play together. Seven of the eight girls will be back with us next year and, if they work in the off-season, they could be a strong group next year."
Emma Coolidge had 8 points, Burnett and Emma Pietropola had 4 points each, and Olivia Servatius, Lindsey Marmara, and Abbye Cavanaugh had 2 points each.
Wellsboro (11-10) will play their final game of the season at home this morning against Cowanesque Valley.
