The Wellsboro Middle School Basketball team earned a win in the final day of the Kyri Hall Tournament on Saturday, February 25 over Bloomsburg.
After the first quarter ended in an 11-11 tie, the Hornets distanced themselves by outscoring Bloomsburg 13-4 in the second to take a 24-15 lead into halftime. Wellsboro outscored Bloom 8-5 in the third to put them up 32-20 heading into the fourth.
Bloomsburg made a run in the final quarter and cut into Wellsboro's lead by outscoring the Hornets 8-2, but Wellsboro held on in the final minutes for their first win of the tournament.
Joseph Grab led Wellsboro with 12 points, Isaac Keane scored 7, Nevin DeCosta added 6, Will Poirier had 5, and Zach Singer and Darryn Callahan scored 2 points each. Singer grabbed 4 rebounds in the game, Grab made 5 steals, and Keane and Poirier had 2 assists each.
The Hornets (9-6) host Athens on Monday, February 27.
