The Wellsboro Middle School Basketball teams picked up a pair of wins on the road at Northeast Bradford on Thursday, February 16.
The Lady Hornets held on to defeat NEB 22-19. Wellsboro led 6-2, 12-8 at the halft, and 16-10 after the third quarter. Jena Boyce had 8 points, 7 steals, and 3 assists, Chelsie English had 8 points and 6 rebounds, Bailey Monks had 4 points and 10 rebounds, and Lindsey Marmara had 2 points.
"Our girls did such a great job defending and pressuring a very good team," said head coach Darrell Morris. "We knew NEB had a very good point guard and we limited her to 5 points. Our girls have come so far since that early tournament and we are all excited about how we are now playing."
In the boys game, Wellsboro won 36-19. The Hornets held a slim 10-7 lead after the first, then outscored NEB 9-1 in the second quarter to push their lead to double-digits. In the second half, the Hornets outscored NEB 17-11 to pick up the win.
"I thought we started out really aggressive then we let up," said head coach Jason Greenfield. "I wasn't happy with some of the unforced turnovers. I think we had 20 tonight which is way too much. But all in all I think it is a great win."
Joseph Grab led all scorers with 16 points, Isaac Keane had 6, and Nevin DeCosta and Danny Timmons had 4 points each. Keane had 8 rebounds and 5 steals, Grab had 5 steals, and DeCosta had 4 assists.
Wellsboro won the B game 17-8 behind 6 points from Owen Richardson and 5 from Drew Manning.
