The Wellsboro Varsity Volleyball team beat Central Mountain 3-1 on Monday, October 9 to win their 8th straight game.
The Lady Hornets edged Central Mountain 25-21 in the first set and won 25-16 in the second. Central Mountain took the third 25-23 to force a fourth set, but Wellsboro won 25-21 for the win.
Junior Heidi Zuchowski led the Lady Hornets with 15 points, 2 aces, and 8 kills; senior Cheyenne Sherman had 10 kills, 9 digs, and 2 blocks; and sophomore Caitlyn Callahan recorded 8 kills and 6 blocks. Sophomore Megan Starkweather scored 8 points with an ace, senior Hannah Burnett had 9 digs, sophomore Ryann Adams made 8 digs,and senior Jillian Graver had 6 points and an ace.
Senior Brianne Keane had 32 assists, 6 points, 2 aces, and 2 blocks.
Wellsboro won the JV game 2-0 (25-10, 25-23) to improve to 15-1.
The win improves the Varsity team's record to 14-2 (9-2 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action tonight as they host Athens.
Wellsboro's Middle School team was also in action on the night and picked up a road win over Williamson. Wellsboro lost the first set 25-8 but rallied to win 25-17 and 15-11. Jordan Judlin had 16 good serves, 2 spikes, and 2 kills; Madaline Bordas 12 good serves and 2 spikes; and Emma Pietropola had 7 good serves and 2 spikes.
The young Lady Hornets are back in action on Wednesday, October 11 at home against Cowanesque Valley.
