The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Soccer team improved to 10-5-1 overall (9-3-1 NTL) with an 11-2 win over Williamson during Senior Night on Tuesday, October 17.
Not even five minutes into the game, senior Linda Avery scored off an assist from freshman Kerrah Clymer. Not even a minute later Williamson's Kirsten Green scored off a corner to tie it at 1-1.
From that point on, however, the Lady Hornets went on an eight goal scoring spree. Junior Emma Poirier scored back-to-back goals, the first being a penalty kick with 16 minutes remaining, then again with 12 minutes later as freshman Jena Boyce assisted. Senior Kailee Clymer made it 4-0 with a minute left in the half.
Wellsboro picked up where they left off in the second half with five goals in six minutes. Kerrah Clymer scored the first of her 4 goals of the evening a minute into the half off an assist from sister Kailee, senior Alyssa Yungwirth scored before Kerrah scored back-to-back goals before Yungwirth's final goal extended the Lady Hornets' lead to 9-1 with 33 minutes still to play.
Williamson's Madi Lee cut the lead to 9-2 with 21 minutes left, but the Lady Hornets were still not done. Kerrah's 4th goal made it 10-2 with 7 minutes remaning, then junior Luna Alexander capped the scoring with 4 minutes left.
Wellsboro outshot Williamson 39-5 on the night and had a 13-1 advantage in corner kicks. Senior Sydney Tremper made 2 saves in goal while junior Alivia Kennedy made 1.
The Lady Hornets have two regular season games remaining, the first at South Williamsport on Thursday, October 19 and their final regular season game at home against Sayre on Saturday, October 21 before District IV playoffs start next week.
