The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Soccer team dropped their third straight game in a 7-1 loss to Athens on Friday, September 29.
Athens scored early and often as Emily Lunger and Rachel Hutchison took turns scoring in the first half and in 30 minutes the Lady Wildcats were up 4-0. Wellsboro managed their only goal of the night as junior Emma Poirier made a penalty kick in the 31st minute to cut the score to 4-1. Athens would answer again before the half ended to take a 5-1 lead going into the break.
Athens scored two goals in under 6 minutes to start the second half for their 7-1 lead, all while holding the Lady Hornets to just 8 shot attempts on goal. Athens took 29 shots on goal and took 12 corner kicks. Wellsboro took 4 corners.
Athens' Kara Chapman made 6 saves in goal while senior Sydney Tremper made 20 saves.
The loss drops Wellsboro to 4-4 (4-2 NTL) while Athens improves to 6-1-2 (6-0-1 NTL). The team is back in action later this evening on the road in Sayre.
