Three Lady Hornets scored in double figures, but the Lady Hornets suffered a 43-41 loss to Danville on Saturday, January 28.
Wellsboro trailed 12-7 after the opening quarter but erased the deficit and came back to tie the game at 22-22 with a 15-point quarter, keyed by 8 points from junior Lizzie Poirier. However, the Lady Hornets struggled to make baskets in the third as the Lady Ironmen outscored Wellsboro 11-7 to regain their lead at 33-29 after the third quarter.
Wellsboro rallied in the fourth and outscored Danville 12-10, but their rally came up short for their 7th loss of the year.
Senior Autum Kitajima led Wellsboro with 12 points, including a 5-for-6 performance at the foul line. Lizzie Poirier finished with 11, sister Emma Poirier had 10, junior Rachael Tuttle added 4, senior Janessa Davis scored 3, and senior Jessica Grab was 1-for-2 from the foul line for her only point.
Tuttle grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds, Lizzie Poirier had 8 boards and 3 steals, Kitajima made 2 assists, and Emma Poirier added 3 rebounds.
Danville won the JV game and held the Lady Hornets to their lowest point total of the year in a 49-14 win. Cathryn Brought had 5 points to lead Wellsboro and freshman Liza Manning added 3.
The loss drops the Lady Hornets' record to 11-7 (10-2 NTL). The team will be back in action on Monday, January 30 as they host Wyalusing.
