The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team scored 10 first half goals to shutout Coudersport 12-0 on Monday, September 18.
"The starters played a great first half," said head coach John Shaffer. "I was very pleased with their pressing and passing. In the second half the second string got a lot of great experience."
Junior Brett Rudy started the scoring three minutes into the game on a solo goal, then senior Gabe Leach assisted senior Tanner Runyan on the first of his three goals two minutes later. Senior Noah Fitch, freshman Kaeden Mann, and Rudy all scored in the next 11 minutes to push the score to 5-0.
Mann scored his 2nd goal to make it 6-0 off an assist from Rudy, Runyan scored a solo goal then assisted Rudy to complete his hat trick and make the score 8-0. Junior Holden Kennedy scored with 9 minutes remaining in the first to make the score 9-0, then Rudy assisted on a Runyan goal six minutes later to make the score 10-0 and complete Runyan's hat trick.
Senior Johnny Rowland scored both second half goals for the Hornets, both assisted by freshman Joseph Grab.
"I want to give a major shout out to the Coudersport goalie, Rozalyn Page," continued Shaffer. "As a freshman in net for a boys team she played outstanding, she has a bright future."
Wellsboro outshot Coudersport 41-11 and won the corner kick battle, 6-1. Junior Nate Redell made 11 saves in goal while Page had 12 for Coudersport.
The win improves the Hornets' record to 6-0-1 (4-0-1 NTL). The team is back in action later this afternoon on the road at Northern Potter.
