The Wellsboro Middle School Boys Basketball team walked away with a 51-18 win over Cowanesque Valley in their final game of the season on Saturday, March 11.
The Hornets led 16-4 after the first quarter, outscored CV 11-1 to lead 27-5 at halftime, then outscored the Indians 24-13 in the second half to close their season out on a high note.
Two Hornets scored in double figures on the day. Joseph Grab led Wellsboro with 18 points, 14 of those coming in the first half, and Isaac Keane with a season-high 13. Darryn Callahan finished with 7 off the bench, Will Poirier had 6, Nevin DeCosta had 5, and Owen Richardson had 2.
Keane finished with 8 steals, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists; DeCosta had 4 assists; Grab had 4 rebounds; and Poirier, Zach Singer, and Callahan all had 3 rebounds each.
Wellsboro lost the B team game 19-16. The Hornets led 8-7 after halftime, but an 8-2 third quarter by CV had Wellsboro down 15-10. Wellsboro outscored CV 6-3 in the final quarter behind two three-pointers from Liam Manning, but it was too little too late. Manning led Wellsboro with 12 points.
The Hornets finish their season with a 14-7 record.
