A 45-point first half propelled the Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball team past Cowanesque Valley, 74-28 on Friday, January 20.
After two early baskets by CV the Hornets went on a 19-0 run to lead 19-5 after the opening quarter. Wellsboro then outscored CV 26-4 in the second, 14-7 in the third, and 15-12 in the fourth to claim their 13th win of the season.
Three Hornets scored in double figures and junior Dalton Prough led all scorers with 15 points. Prough also added 9 rebounds to finish just shy of a double-double. Sophomore Brandyn Tuttle recorded his first career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, and junior Quinn Henry had 10 points and 2 assists.
Junior Collin Pietropola had 9 points (7 in the fourth quarter), senior Alden Weiner and sophomore Andrew Brelo scored 7 points each, and seniors Brandon Lamphier and Jacob Singer, and junior Nic Ingerick all scored 5 points.
Singer added 4 steals, Henry, Ingerick, and Lamphier all made 2 assists, Weiner had 4 rebounds, Brelo had 4 steals, and Pietropola had 4 rebounds.
Wellsboro win the JV game 39-21 to improve to 13-1. Sophomore Holden Kennedy led the team with 10 points and Brelo added 8.
The win improves the Hornets' record to 13-3 (10-1 NTL). The team will be back in action on Monday, January 23 against St. John Neumann.
