Hornet girls 3rd, boys 4th at Athens

The Wellsboro Track teams took home third and fourth place at a quad-meet at Athens on Tuesday, April 25.

In the girls meet, Athens won with 120 points, Troy was 2nd with 64, the Lady Hornets scored 54, and Northeast Bradford was 4th with 28.

Freshman Caitlyn Callahan (14.5) was 5th in the 100m and 5th in the 200m (30.0), sophomore Zoe Iseri (31.26) was 7th in the 200m and freshman Savana Baltzley (31.3) was 8th, Iseri (1:11.47) was 3rd in the 400m, junior Anna Bleggi (2:57.68) was 7th in the 800m and 4th in the 1600m (6:15.54).

Sophomore Elizabeth Macias was 5th in the 1600m (6:15.69) and won the 3200m (13:30.89). Freshman Kayla Mengee (6:31.74) was 8th in the 1600m, junior Grace Heckman (20.00) and freshman Kylie Butler (20.38) were 7th and 8th in the 100m hurdles, and Baltzley (56.13) was 4th in the 300m hurdles.

Wellsboro was 2nd in the 4x100m relay (56.21), 3rd in the 4x400m relay (5:04.21), and 3rd in the 4x800m relay (11:31.30).

Sophomore Alivia Kennedy and sophomore Dahlia Hosey (4-ft, 2-in) tied for 2nd in the high jump, junior Kaitlyne Kramer (8-ft) won the pole vault, Dahlia Hosey (15-ft) was 2nd and Cheyenne Sherman (12-ft, 9-in) was 6th in the long jump, Callahan (31-ft, 7-in) was 2nd in the triple jump, and Kennedy (27-ft) was 4th in the triple jump.

Senior Hannah Lawton (26-ft, 5.75-in) and sophomore Harmony Benner (26-ft, 1-in) were 7th and 8th in the shot put, Lawton (80-ft, 10-in) was 4th in the discus, and senior Samantha Spurgeon (87-ft, 9-in) was 2nd in the javelin.

In the boys meet, Athens won with 146, Troy was 2nd at 44.5, Northeast Bradford was 3rd with 39, and the Hornets were 4th with 37.5.

Senior Devan Warner (12.42) was 7th in the 100m, junior Wyatt Dean (25.18) tied for 4th in the 200m, and Devan Warner (58.23) and Dean (58.71) were 5th and 6th in the 400m. Sophomore Trevor Weaver (2:30.77) was 5th in the 800m, sophomore Aidan Perry (5:03.52) was 3rd in the 1600m and 2nd in the 3200m (11:09.83), freshman Alex Burrell (19.69) was 4th in the 110m hurdles, sophomore Isaac Wagner (49.95) was 5th in the 300m hurdles.

Wellsboro was 6th in 4x440m relay (4:23.78) and 3rd in the 4x800m relay (9:44.13).

Senior Gene Wagner (5-ft) and freshman Karter Witmer (5-ft) were 4th and 5th in the high jump, junior Devin Webster (9-ft) was 3rd in the pole vault, senior Brandon Lamphier (17-ft, 7-in) was 3rd in the long jump, and Burrell (33-ft, 11-in) was 4th in the triple jump.

Senior Casey Hoover (29-ft, 5-in) was 10th in the shot put and 7th in the discus (80-ft, 7-in), Perry (90-ft, 7-in) was 4th in the discus, and Lamphier won the javelin (136-ft, 10-in) with freshman Austin Richards (115-ft, 6-in), Burrell, and senior Brody Coolidge (108-ft, 8-in) in 4th-6th place.

"I thought we did well! We had quite a few PR's," said head coach Elizabeth Hoover. "Our veterans are certainly leaders, but our freshmen and new comers are athletes that will have to be reckoned with in the future. They are already stealing places from the other team's seasoned athletes."

The boys are now 0-6 (0-5 NTL) and the girls are 2-4 (2-3 NTL). Both teams are on the road this Thursday, April 27 for a non-league meet at Montgomery.
