The Wellsboro Boys Basketball team's season came to an end on Saturday, March 5 with a 42-33 loss to Minersville at Martz Hall in Pottsville.
After trailing early the Hornets battled back to take the lead as sophomore Quinn Henry cut through the lane, sank the shot, and was fouled. Henry put the Hornets up 7-6 with 2:05 left in the quarter, and and three-pointer from junior Jacob Singer put Wellsboro up 10-6 after the first.
Turnovers plagued the Hornets in the second quarter as Minersville would score three early baskets to take the lead and they would never look back. Minersville outscored Wellsboro 15-6 in the quarter as the Hornets had trouble finishing shots to take a 21-16 lead at the half.
The Hornets cut into the lead to two points a couple of times in the third but never got closer than that. Minersville ended the third up 27-23, then outscored Wellsboro 15-10 to send the Hornets home with a loss.
Brothers Dawson Prough and Dalton Prough led the team with 9 points each, Henry scored 7 to go along with 6 rebounds and 3 steals, Singer had 6, and junior Alden Weiner had 2 to round out the scoring.
Dawson Prough finishes his Wellsboro career with 619 points, 121 assists, 77 steals, and 242 rebounds.
The Hornets' end the season with a 17-9 record.
