The Wellsboro Middle School Basketball teams continued their perfect seasons with wins over Canton on Saturday, February 13.
The Lady Hornets cruised to their fifth win of the season as they scored 21 first half points while holding Canton to just two. Wellsboro then outscored Canton 17-10 in the second half.
Cathryn Brought led the Lady Hornets with 14 points, Jaime Palmer scored nine, Kayla Mengee had four points and five rebounds, and Emma Palmer had three points, two rebounds, two assists.
"We got off to a fast start today scoring 14 points in the first quarter," said head coach Darrell Morris. "The girls took control of the game right from the tip. All of our girls played well and got a lot of minutes and experience."
In the B game Wellsboro won 30-2 behind eight points a piece from Breighanna Kemp and Bailey Monks.
"We started off flat and got out hustled in the first half," said head coach Jason Greenfield. "The second half we played better causing turnovers and finishing shots."
The Hornets held a slim 6-4 lead after the first before scoring nine points in the second quarter to take a 15-8 lead at halftime. Wellsboro then turned up the heat in the second half as they outscored Canton 21-12 for the win.
Billy Lechler led the Hornets with 17 points, eight of them coming in the third quarter. Karter Witmer pitched in with nine points.
In the B game the Hornets won 29-6. Nathan Heath scored a team-high eight points, Chris Knapp added seven, and Bryson Roberts finished with six.
Both Wellsboro teams improve to 5-0 on the year and will be back in action tomorrow at home against Towanda.
