The Wellsboro Middle School Boys Basketball team pushed their win streak to six games with a 39-23 win over Cowanesque Valley on Monday, March 7.
Wellsboro jumped out to an early 11-4 lead and extended it to 20-9 at halftime. CV managed to make up some ground as the scored 10 points in the third quarter, but Wellsboro maintained a 34-19 lead. Wellsboro then won the fourth quarter to win the game.
"The boys came out right from the beginning sharing the ball and playing good defense," said head coach Jason Greenfield. "I was a little nervous coming into the game after a two day break, but they played a great game against a good CV team."
While only three players scored for CV on the night, they got 20 points from Seth Huyler.
"He's a great player," Greenfield said. "We had some problems guarding him but everyone else stepped up and shut their guys down."
Joseph Grab led the Hornets with 16 points and Billy Lechler had 11.
In the B game, Wellsboro won 30-4. Luke Leach led with 8 points, Will Poirier and Zack Singer had 6 each, Alex Burrell had 4, and Tyren Wetzel pitched in with 3.
The win improves the Hornets' record to 11-3. The team will be back in action on Friday, March 11 as they travel to Mansfield.
