The Wellsboro Middle School Basketball teams continued their undefeated seasons with wins over Williamson on Thursday, February 11.
"I thought we played a great game offensively by moving the ball and finding the open shooter," said head coach Jason Greenfield. "Also I thought fast break was pretty good for our first time putting that into our system. On defense we struggled defending the ball and boxing out but we will continue to work on that in practice so we can be a great defensive team."
The Hornets jumped out to an early 14-6 lead then extended it to 23-8 at the half. Wellsboro kept scoring at will as they outscored Williamson 24-16 to pick up their fourth win of the season. Joseph Grab scored a game-high 13 points and Billy Lechler scored 10.
The Wellsboro B team won 45-5 behind 11 points from Chris Knapp.
The Lady Hornets built up a 12-0 first quarter lead and pushed it to 20-4 at the half before outscoring Williamson 22-7 in the second half for the win. Cathryn Brought led the team with 14 points, four rebounds, eight steals, and two assists. Liza Manning had eight points and three rebounds, Jaime Palmer and Kayla Mengee had six points each, Nina Coolidge added four points, while Jena Boyce and Breighanna Kemp pitched in two.
"We had a sluggish start to our game and got outhustled at times by a young Williamson team," said head coach Darrell Morris. "The girls played through it and made some plays in the second half. We have to get some things tightened up before we start the NTL East portion of our schedule next week, but many of our girls are very self-motivated. I am sure they are going to work hard to be prepared for the challenge ahead."
The girls B team won 13-6 behind four points by Kiyah Boyce and Breighanna Kemp. Kylie Butler and Bailey Monks pitched in two points each.
Both teams will be back in action on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. against Canton.
