The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team scored 30 first half points as they handed Northeast Bradford a 53-45 loss on Wednesday, January 13 in Wellsboro.
The Lady Hornets outscored NEB 15-9 in the first quarter with 13 of those points coming from senior Jada Jackson and sophomore Lizzie Poirier. Wellsboro then went on to score 15 more points to NEB's 11 to lead 30-20 at halftime. Both teams scored 11 points each as the Lady Hornets maintained their 10 point lead in the final frame.
NEB outscored the Lady Hornets 14-12 in the fourth, but Wellsboro held on for their 10th win of the season.
Jackson had a double-double in the win with 13 points and 10 rebounds to led Wellsboro. Senior Alexa Singer and junior Jessica Grab each scored 9 points, senior Sarah Ingerick and Poirier finished with seven each, sophomore Rachael Tuttle scored six points, and junior Autum Kitajima rounded out the scoring with two points.
Tuttle added eight rebounds on the night, Kitajima had seven assists, and Ingerick made four assists and blocked a shot.
The JV team lost 37-34 to have their four-game winning streak snapped. The Lady Hornets had a shot to tie, but freshman Emma Poirier's shot, which was good, left her hand after the final buzzer sounded.
The win improves the Varsity team's record to 10-3. The team will be back in action on Friday, January 15 at North Penn-Liberty
