The Wellsboro Girls Soccer team notched a 2-1 win over Towanda on Saturday, September 17.
The Lady Hornets got the scoring started just over 10 minutes into the game as sophomore Emma Poirier scored off an assist from senior Janessa Davis with 28:22 remaining in the first half. The score remained 1-0 Wellsboro until 30:42 of the second half on a Towanda goal by Vanessa Vanderpool to tie it at 1-1.
The Lady Hornets broke the tie with 16 minutes left in the game as sophomore Julia Smith converted a penalty kick for the goal. The Lady Hornets held on the rest of the way for the 2-1 win.
Wellsboro edged Towanda 15-12 in shot attempts, but Towanda had a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks. Towanda had 9 fouls during the game to Wellsboro's 8 and junior Kailee Clymer made 11 saves in goal.
The win improves the Lady Hornets' record to 2-4 (2-2 NTL) on the year. The team will be back in action tomorrow against Williamson.
