The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team picked up their third straight win on Thursday, December 29 by defeating Canton 48-20.
The Lady Hornets jumped out to an early 11-3 first quarter lead and never looked back. Wellsboro outscored Canton 17-9 in the second quarter to build a comfortable 28-12 halftime lead, and outscored Canton 20-8 in the second half.
Sisters Lizzie Poirier (13) and Emma Poirier (11) combined to outscore Canton 24-20, while junior Rachael Tuttle had 8, senior Autum Kitajima had 7, senior Janessa Davis scored 5, and sophomores Heidi Zuchowski and Luna Alexander scored 2 points each. Tuttle grabbed 10 rebounds, Davis made 5 assists, and Lizzie Poirier had 4 steals.
Wellsboro won the JV game 23-14 to improve to 4-3 on the year. Freshman Jaime Palmer led all Hornets with 7 points and freshman Cathryn Brought added 5.
The win improves the Varsity team's record to 5-3 (4-0 NTL). The team will be back in action on Wednesday, January 4 against Towanda.
