The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Soccer team snapped a 6-game winless streak with a 2-0 shutout against North Penn-Mansfield on Monday, October 10.
After a scoreless first period sophomore Dahlia Hosey gave the Lady Hornets a 1-0 lead as she had a break away up the middle of the field and sent a shot past the goalie with 26:35 remaining. Exactly two minutes later, senior Kelsey Logan scored to make it 2-0 after sophomore Emma Poirier gave her a perfect pass off a corner kick. The Lady Hornets then hung on the rest of the way for the win.
"We had a rally good chat at halftime," said head coach TJ Freeman. "We needed to pick up some things and we were playing very slowly. We're also playing in a difficult position because we've so many of our starters due to injury, so we're adjusting and working through those bugs at halftime too."
Wellsboro outshot North Penn-Mansfield 11-7 on the afternoon and had a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks. Junior Kailee Clymer made 7 saves in goal to record her second shutout of the season.
In the JV game, Wellsboro also shutout the Lady Tigers 5-0. Sophomore Ruby Stocks recorded a hat trick and Savana Baltzley scored the other two goals.
The win improves the Lady Hornets' record to 5-9-1 (5-5-1 NTL). The team will be back this afternoon against Williamson.
