The Wellsboro Middle School Girls Basketball team picked up their 16th win of the year with a 41-19 win over rival Mansfield on Thursday, March 10.
The Lady Hornets jumped out to a 14-0 lead after the first quarter and had a 24-4 lead at the half. Wellsboro outscored Mansfield 17-15 with the game out of reach to pick up the win.
"Our girls showed up and played an awesome game from start to finish," said head coach Darrell Morris. "We played great defense, executed on offense, our big girls rebounded, and our bench all contributed. We really passed well, got great looks, and finished at the basket. We made some small adjustments to our offense in practice on Wednesday in case Mansfield ran a triangle and two or box and one, and it turned out that they ran both. Our girls handled it really well. I am just so happy for our girls to have played such a great game against a very good opponent at the end of our season."
Jaime Palmer had 18 points and 7 rebounds, Cathryn Brought had 10 points, Lauren Singer and Georgia Macensky had 4 points each, Jena Boyce had 3 points, Liza Manning had 2 points and 8 rebounds, and Chelsea Morris had 4 rebounds. Kayla Mengee had 2 steals and 1 assist, Emma Palmer had 1 rebound and 1 assist, and Nina Coolidge had 2 rebounds and 1 assist.
The B team also won 16-10 to improve to 13-2 on the year. Breighanna Kemp had 6 points to lead the team, while Chelsie English had 4 points and Kiyah Boyce, Bri Tuttle, and Faith Avery had 2 points each.
The Lady Hornets wrap up their season tomorrow morning against Liberty.
