The Wellsboro Girls Basketball team's four-game win streak came to an end with a 34-22 loss to Danville on Saturday, January 16.
The Lady Hornets got off to a slow start in their fourth game of the week and Danville jumped out to a 16-4 lead in the first quarter. Turnovers plagued Wellsboro the entire game as the team committed 18 on the afternoon. Wellsboro limited Danville to only seven points in the second quarter and just four in the third to make up some ground, but Danville still held a 27-12 lead entering the fourth quarter.
The Lady Hornets kept cutting into Danville's lead, and pulled to within 10 points with 2:22 left in the fouth, but Danville held on down the stretch for the win.
Sophomore Lizzie Poirier led Wellsboro with eight points and six rebounds. Junior Autum Kitajima scored six, sophomore Rachael Tuttle had four, and seniors Sarah Ingerick and Jada Jackson each had two points.
Tuttle added seven rebounds and Ingerick pitched in with six.
Wellsboro won the JV game 28-24 for their 12th win of the year. Freshman Julia Smith led the team with 13 points and freshman Emma Poirier added seven.
The loss drops the Lady Hornets to 11-4 on the year with their next game on Wednesday, January 20 in Sayre.
