JV baseball ties and falls to Athens

The Wellsboro JV Baseball team tied and lost to Athens on the road on Thursday, April 21.

Wellsboro and Athens tied 6-6 in the first game. Wellsboro led 1-0 after the first on a run from freshman Cam Tennis, but Athens did their damage in the second inning, scoring all 6 runs to take a 6-1 lead. The Hornets got 2 runs back in the second inning from freshman Taynton Repard and sophomore Parker Mann.

Wellsboro scored 3 more runs in the third to tie it at 6-6 as junior Ben Moss and sophomores Brent English and Brandon Plume all crossed home plate. The Hornets couldn't generate any offense in the fourth or fifth innings, but held Athens' lead running from scoring in the bottom of the fifth to keep the game tied.

Tennis, Plume, and sophomores Nic Ingerick and Kody Rice were all 1-for-3 and Mann was 1-for-2. Tennis pitched the first 2 innings, allowing 6 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits while striking out 1. Ingerick came on and pitched the final 3 innings, striking out 3 and allowing 1 hit.

In the second game, Wellsboro lost to Athens 4-3. The Hornets scored 2 runs in the first inning on runs by Tennis and English, then English added 1 more in the third. Athens scored a run in the first, one in the second, and 2 in the third for the win. The Hornets had a chance to win at the end, but left the bases loaded.

Ingerick pitched one inning, giving up 1 run and 2 hits with a strikeout. Repard pitched 3 innings, allowing 3 runs (1 earned) with 3 strikeouts, and Mann pitched the final inning, walking one.

English led the Hornets at the plate going 3-for-3, Moss was 2-for-3, Repard and Rice were 1-for-2, and Tennis was 1-for-3.

The Hornets now sit at 1-2-1 on the year. The team will be back in action on Thursday, April 28 against Canton.
