The Wellsboro JV Baseball team swept Sayre in a doubleheader on the road on Thursday, May 5.
The Hornets won the first game 10-7 and the second 13-5 to improve to 3-2-1 on the year.
In the first game, Wellsboro got runs from freshman Cam Tennis and sophomores Parker Mann and Brent English. Wellsboro then added 4 more runs in the second inning, as Mann, English, junior Ben Moss, and sophomore Trent Darrow all crossed home plate. The Hornets added 3 runs in the fourth from freshman Taynton Repard, sophomore Nic Ingerick, and sophomore Brandon Plume.
Tennis led the Hornets at the plate with a 2-for-3 performance. Mann, Repard, and Plume were all 1-for-3, Darrow was 1-for-2, and Ingerick was 1-for-4.
Tennis started on the mound and pitched 4 innings, allowing 7 runs (5 earned), 7 hits, and 4 walks while striking out 5. Ingerick came on in relief for an inning and struck out 2.
In the second game, Wellsboro scored 8 runs (Tennis, Mann, English, Moss, Repard, Ingerick, Plume, and Darrow) in the first inning, and then 5 in the second (Moss, Repard, Ingerick, Plume, and Darrow) to claim the victory and complete the sweep. Repard went 2-for-2 to lead the Hornets at the plate, Plume was 2-for-3, Ingerick was 1-for-2, and Moss went 1-for-3.
Mann pitched all four innings of the second game, allowing 5 runs (all earned) on 3 hits while striking out 4.
