It took double overtime, but the Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team came home with a 2-1 win over North Penn-Liberty on Wednesday, September 28.

The Mounties' Cameron Alexander scored with 29:37 remaining in the first half to put Liberty up 1-0 early over Wellsboro. Senior Josiah Hill evened the score at 1-1 as he converted an assist by junior Gabe Leach with 12:30 left in the first half. The score remained tied at 1-1 sending the game into overtime, and eventually double overtime.

Just over 3 minutes into double overtime, Hill capitalized on a mistake by the North Penn-Liberty goalie and kicked his 81st career goal into the net, with senior Jacob Singer on the assist, giving the Hornets the 2-1 win. Hill is now 1 goal away from tying Alexis Getty's mark of 82 for the most goals ever by a Wellsboro player.

Wellsboro took 10 shots to North Penn-Liberty's 4 and had an 11-2 advantage in corner kicks. Senior Casey Hoover made 3 saves on the afternoon.

The JV game ended in a scoreless tie, making their record 9-1-2 on the year.

The Varsity team's win, their 9th in a row, improves the team's record to 9-3 (7-2 NTL) and qualifies the team for District IV playoffs. The team will be back in action on Monday, October 3 against Athens.
