Senior Casey Hoover and the Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team's defense shutout Williamson 2-0 on Monday, October 17.
The Hornets held Williamson to just 5 shots on goal in the contest, and Hoover recorded all 5 saves for his fifth shutout of this season and 15th of his career. Wellsboro also held Williamson to just 4 corner kicks, while the Hornets took 11 on the afternoon, and also took 11 shots on goal.
After a scoreless first half, senior Josiah Hill scored 2 unanswered goals to push the Hornets to their 13th victory of the season. Hill now has 92 goals for his career and broke his own school record of 38 goals in a single season with 39.
Hill's first goal came with 26:39 remaining off an assist from junior Tanner Runyan, then he later score unassisted with 9:45 left to make it 2-0.
"We struggled to pass the ball tonight but found a way in the 2nd half to get the result," said head coach John Shaffer. "Hopefully we will clean things up heading into districts. Credit to the team for getting the shutout, which was one thing we focused on."
Hill attempted 4 shots on goal, senior Jacob Singer and Runyan both took 2, and juniors Noah Fitch and Gabe Leach, and sophomore Cam Tennis all had one each. Leach (10) and Runyan (1) combined for the Hornets' 11 corner kicks.
In the JV game, sophomore Adam Cornell scored the game's lone goal to give the Hornets (12-2-2) a 1-0 win.
The win improves the Hornets' record to 13-4 (10-3 NTL). The team will be back in action for their final regular season game, and Senior Night, on Wednesday, October 19 against Sayre.
