The Wellsboro Boys Basketball team took home a second place finish at the Shamokin Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday, December 10.
After beating host Shamokin in the first round on Friday, the Hornets lost 53-43 to Shenandoah Valley in the championship game Saturday evening.
Both teams were evenly matched early on with the Hornets trailing 15-12 after the opening quarter, but numerous turnovers in the second and third quarters allowed Shenandoah Valley to hold onto a lead the entire contest. Wellsboro trailed by 5 at halftime then Shenandoah Valley outscored the Hornets 11-7 in the third to pull ahead 35-26. Wellsboro closed the gap to 6 points in the fourth until the outside shooting of Shenandoah Valley's Joel Santana (24 points) 12 fourth-quarter points closed out the game.
Junior Dalton Prough led the Hornets with 11 points, senior Jacob Singer had 10, and sophomore Brandyn Tuttle had 9. Prough had 9 rebounds, Tuttle and junior Nic Ingerick had 5 each, and Singer and senior Brandon Lamphier recorded 4.
Wellsboro (1-1) begins NTL regular season play on Tuesday, December 13 as they host Canton.
