The Wellsboro Golf team placed 2nd at Shepard Hills to open the 2016 NTL season on Tuesday, August 23.
The Hornets shot 376 to finish behind Northern Tioga (339). Northeast Bradford (394) was 3rd, Sayre (401) was 4th, North Penn-Mansfield (420) was 5th, Towanda (425) was 6th, and Athens (438) was 7th.
"We played alright for the first match of the year," said head coach Steve Macensky. "We have some real work to do if we want to catch Northern Tioga. They played really great. Going to their home course next will not be easy. I except to see our scores improve as the season goes on. It was a good start to the season."
Sophomore Ben Barnett led the Hornets with a 4th place overall finish with a score of 83. Sophomore Brandyn Tuttle shot 88, sophomore Taynton Repard finished with a round of 98, junior Zach Lundgren shot 107, sophomore Chris Richardson had a 116, and freshman Joseph Propheta scored 121.
The Hornets start the season 5-1 (5-1 NTL). The team will be back in action on Tuesday, August 30 at River Valley Country Club.
