Junior forward Josiah Hill was named to the 2015 Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association's All-State team on Saturday, January 30.
Hill attended the banquet the Radisson Hotel in Camp Hill, PA with his parents and head coach John Shaffer.
"I think being recognized as an All-State player is an extreme honor and I'm thankful for it," Hill said. "It could not have been done without the help from the players around me, my coaches, and my family."
Hill had a record-breaking year for the Hornets, as he scored a team record 38 goals including five against South Williamsport early in the season. Hill is now the second all-time career goal scorer (53) behind Darby Alafoginis (56).
Hill is Coach Shaffer's third All-State selection as Alafoginis was selected in 2011 and Erik Stemcosky was picked in 2013.
"Saturday's banquet was the culmination of a great year for Josiah," Shaffer said. "To be recognized among his peers as one of the top boys soccer players in the state is a huge moment for him. Josiah was one of only ten juniors to receive an award, making his accomplishment that much more impressive.
"Hopefully the day also inspired Josiah to work hard in the off season. Two area players were named to the NSCAA East All-Region team and Josiah was right behind them in season statistics, so that accomplishment is within reach if Josiah continues to improve his game. Lastly, Saturday was a great day for Wellsboro Soccer in general. Josiah would not have garnered this honor without the hard work and skill of his teammates. Every member of the boys team should share in the joy of Josiah's accomplishment."
WellsboroAthletics.com would like to congratulate Josiah on being named to the All-State team.
