Sophomore Dalton Prough scored a game, season, and career-high 21 points to lead the Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball team to a 80-36 victory over Williamson on Wednesday, December 16.
Prough scored an early five points and 19 of his 21 points in the first half to give the Hornets the lopsided win. Wellsboro jumped out to a 21-11 lead in the first quarter and then outscored Williamson 25-3 in the second to put the game away. Prough finished with a double-double by grabbing 12 rebounds. Sophomore Quinn Henry took over where Prough left off in the second half as he scored 12 of his 17 points in the half, including 8 of the Hornets' 16 third quarter points.
Wellsboro's younger players played the majority of the fourth quarter to close out the team's fifth consecutive win. Junior Alden Weiner finished the night with 9 points and 9 rebounds, sophomore Collin Pietropola also pitched in 9 points. Freshman Andrew Brelo scored 7, freshman Brandyn Tuttle, junior Jacob Singer, and sophomore Nic Ingerick all scored 5 points, and senior Dawson Prough added two points.
The JV team beat Williamson 45-12 to improve to 6-0 on the year. Brelo led the team with 16 points and Tuttle pitched in 7.
The win improves the Varsity team's record to 5-1 on the year. The team will be back in action on Friday, December 18 as they travel to Troy.
