The Wellsboro Middle School Girls Basketball team won their third straight game as they defeated rival Mansfield 29-10 on Monday, March 23.
The Lady Hornets jumped out to a 19-1 lead at halftime so the younger players saw qaulity minutes in the second half for the second consecutive game. Emma Poirier led all scorers with 14 points. Julia Smith (nine rebounds) and Cathryn Brought (five steals) added six and five points, respectively respectively. Jaime Palmer and Dani Hunt added two points each. Heidi Zuchowski also added seven rebounds.
"Our girls did a fantastic job of playing man to man defense in the first half and our defensive pressure really opened up the game for us," said head coach Darrell Morris. "We still have to work on finishing at the basket and protecting the basketball, but I was very happy with the intensity and effort our girls displayed tonight.
"The team really did a lot of things well tonight, and if we can get to the point where we make those easy layups and don't turn the ball over so much we could be really outstanding."
The B Team won 10-4 to improve to 3-3-1 on the year. With the win, the A team improves to 14-4. The team will be back in action on Friday, March 27 as they travel to Liberty.
