The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team extended their win streak with a 58-31 victory against Wyalusing on Saturday, December 19.
The Lady Hornets jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after senior Sarah Ingerick and sophomore Lizzie Poirier hit early shots. Wellsboro would end the first quarter with an 11-5 lead that it would never relinquish. Wellsboro outscored Wyalusing 19-9 in the second quarter and took a 46-25 lead at the end of the third quarter.
The Lady Hornets finished the game by outscoring Wyalusing 12-6 in the fourth for the win.
Senior Jada Jackson led the Lady Hornets on the night with 17 points, her fifth straight game scoring in double figures. Ingerick finished the night with 13 points, Poirier and sophomore Rachael Tuttle each scored 8 points, and senior Alexa Singer, junior Jessica Grab, and junior Janessa Davis all scored four points each.
Wellsboro won the JV game 34-9 to improve to 6-1. Freshman Julia Smith led the way with 13 points and freshman Emma Poirier had 8.
With the win, the Varsity team improves to 6-1 (2-0 NTL Division 1). The team will be back in action tomorrow as they travel to Coudersport.
