The Wellsboro Girls Basketball team rebounded following their second loss of the year to beat Towanda 48-23 on Tuesday, December 22.
The Lady Hornets scored 14 first quarter points and held Towanda to 11 total points in the first half. Wellsboro scored 18 points in the third quarter to extend their lead to 40-16 entering the fourth quarter, then outscored the Lady Knights 8-7 in the final frame for the win.
Senior Sarah Ingerick scored a game-high 13 points to bring her career total to 891 points, 109 shy of becoming the 9th Lady Hornet to reach the milestone. Senior Jada Jackson added 10 points, senior Alexa Singer had six points, and junior Janessa Davis added five points.
Junior Jessica Grab and sophomore Lizzie Poirier each scored four points and sophomore Rachael Tuttle and freshmen Julia Smith and Emma Poirier all added two points.
The JV team won 40-13 to improve to 7-2 on the year. Smith had a game-high 16 points and Emma Poirier added 14. Freshman Heidi Zuchowski scored four points and junior Alley Drew and freshman Tiana Lecker each contributed two points.
The win improves the Varsity team's record to 7-2. The team will be back in action on Monday, December 28 as they host Danville.
