The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team picked up their first win of the season with a 54-33 victory over Northwest Area in the consolation game of the Muncy Rotary Tournament on Saturday, December 5.
The Lady Hornets jumped out to a 12-5 lead at the end of the first quarter and led 21-13 at the half. Wellsboro then scored 33 second half points for their first win of the season.
Senior Sarah Ingerick led all Hornets with 16 points, sophomore Lizzie Poirier finished with 12 and junior Jessica Grab pitched in 11. Sophomore Rachael Tuttle and junior Janessa Davis each finished with six points, junior Autum Kitajima had two points, and senior Alexa Singer pitched in a point.
The JV team split their games on the afternoon, dropping the first 22-12 to Hughesville and winning 28-13 over Muncy. Freshman Emma Poirier led the young Lady Hornets 24 combined points.
Both JV and Varsity team are 1-1 on the year. The team will be back in action on Tuesday, December 8 as they host Cowanesque Valley.
