The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball team remained undefeated in the NTL with a 54-36 victory over Troy on Friday, December 18.
The Hornets outscored Troy 17-7 in the first quarter, but struggled in the second to make layups. Wellsboro led 25-14 at the half. Troy kept it close in the third quarter as they held Wellsboro to just 10 points, but the Hornets went on a 19-13 run in the fourth quarter to hold on for their sixth straight win.
Three Hornets were in double figures on the night, led by sophomore Quinn Henry with 14 points, junior Jacob Singer had 13, and senior Dawson Prough had 10 points. Juniors Brandon Lamphier and Alden Weiner each had six points and sophomore Dalton Prough finished with five points.
Dawson Prough had three rebounds, Dalton Prough had four rebounds, three steals, and three assists. Henry grabbed 9 rebounds and three steals, Weiner had seven rebounds and three blocks, Singer had two blocks and two rebounds, and sophomore Collin Pietropola had three rebounds.
Wellsboro won the JV game 56-22 to improve to 7-0. Freshman Andrew Brelo led the team with 14 points, freshman Brandyn Tuttle finished with 13 points, and sophomore Nic Ingerick had 11.
With the win, the Varsity team improves to 6-1 (1-0 NTL Division 1). The team will be back in action on Wednesday, December 23 at Wyalusing.
