The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball team dropped their second straight game as they lost 61-52 to Lewisburg on Wednesday, December 30.
The Hornets managed to sat in the game early on as they were tied 11-11 after the first quarter and trailed 28-25 at halftime. Lewisburg pulled away in the second half as they outscored Wellsboro 21-9 in the third quarter.
The Hornets made a run in the fourth and outscored Lewisburg 18-12, but couldn't make up enough ground.
Sam Allen led all scorers on the afternoon with 21 points. The Hornets had four score in double figures in the game led by Dalton Prough with 13 points. Junior Jacob Singer scored 11 points, senior Dawson Prough and sophomore Quinn Henry each scored 10, sophomore Collin Pietropola had four, junior Brandon Lamphier added two points, and junior Alden Weiner and sophomore Nic Ingerick each added a point.
The Wellsboro JV team remained undefeated after pulling out a 43-40 win. The team went a combined 8-for-8 from the foul line on the afternoon, and Ingerick iced the game in the final seconds on two made foul shots. Ingerick led the Hornets with 12 points and freshman Brandyn Tuttle added 10.
The loss drops the Hornets to 6-3. The team will be back in action in the New Year on Wednesday, January 6 as they host Towanda.
