Junior Josiah Hill scored his fifth hat trick of the season to help the Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team down Sayre 5-0 on Wednesday, October 14.
"Sayre played really well tonight and gave us a tough match," said head coach John Shaffer. "Their goalie made some great saves to keep them in it. We stuck to our possession game and eventually our chances paid off. I'm happy for the boys, this ties our school record for wins in the regular season."
The Hornets jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first half as sophomore Tanner Runyan scored the game's first goal with 18:33 remaining off an assist from senior Dawson Prough. Prough scored the Hornets' second goal with 26:19 remaining in the game to make it 2-0.
Hill then went on his scoring attack with his first goal coming just 11 seconds after Prough's goal to increase the Hornets' lead to 3-0. With 12:42 left in the game Hill scored his second goal off an assist from senior Tucker Worthington, then scored his third, and the game's final goal, with 12:18 left.
Hill's hat trick gives him 30 goals on the year and 45 for his career.
The win improves the Hornets' record to 14-1-1 (10-1-1 NTL). The team will be back in action on Monday, October 19 as they travel to Athens to avenge their only loss of the year.
