Junior Josiah Hill had a career game as he scored five goals as Wellsboro shut out South Williamsport 5-0 on Sautrday, September 12.
"The boys played really well today. We kept the ball moving and created a lot of opprotuinites," said head coach John Shaffer. "On the defensive end we were organized much better then our first two games. Josiah scored all the goals but it was a team effort in creating those opportunities."
Hill's first goal came in the 23rd minute on an assist from junior Jacob Singer to put the Hornets up 1-0. The score remained that way until 7:45 of the second half when Hill scored a header off a corner kick from sophomore Gabe Leach. Less than a minute later Hill scored off a helper from senior Nick Webster, then with under 10 minutes left to play Hill scored unassisted.
Less than two minutes later Hill got his final goal, this time off an from senior Dawson Prough.
Junior Casey Hoover made two saves in goal to keep the shut out and Wellsboro boasted a 19-2 edge in shots and 9-1 edge in corner kicks.
In the JV game the Hornets also shut out South Williamsport, 3-0.
With the win, the Hornets improve to 3-0 (2-0 NTL). The team will be back in action on Tuesday, September 15 as they host Sayre.
