The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Soccer team picked up a 3-2 win over NEB in double overtime on Thursday, October 15.
Senior Sarah Ingerick scored the game's first goal in the 27th minute to make it 1-0 Wellsboro. NEB quickly countered to tie it at 1-1 as Hannah Shadduck scored at 31:15. The scored remained tied until freshman Emma Poirier scored at 43:12 to put the Lady Hornets on top.
Again, Shadduck tied the game back up for NEB just over a minute later. Neither team would score the remainder of regulation, sending the game into overtime, the second overtime game this week for the Lady Hornets.
After falling to Sayre earlier in the week in overtime, Wellsboro was victorious as freshman Julia Smith scored 48 seconds into the second overtime period to lift the Lady Hornets to victory.
Wellsboro outshot NEB 22-10 and had a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks. Smith and Poirier each had assists and sophomore Kailee Clymer made 8 saves on the night.
The JV game ended in a scoreless tie. The win improves the Varsity team's record to 8-5-1 (7-3-1 NTL). The team will be back in action on Tuesday, October 20 as they host Troy for Senior Night.
