The Wellsboro Middle School basketball teams we both victorious Wednesday against Towanda.
The girls team defeated Towanda 37-18 to improve to 9-3 on the year. Rachael Tuttle had 17 points and 16 rebounds. Lizzie Poirier and Sydney Tremper had 7 points each. Alyssa Yungwirth and Brianne Keane had 4 and 2 points respectively.
"We started well and held a 11-3 lead at the end of the first quarter," said head coach Darrell Morris. "We didn't protect the ball or box out very well in the second quarter and got outscored 10-2 to go into halftime tied. We talked about the importance of the basics at halftime and our girls came out and played like we expect them to and outscored Towanda 18-0 in the third quarter.
"I was happy to see our girls overcome some adversity and get a solid win over an NTL East opponent," Morris concluded.
In the girls B game, the team lost 20-10 to fall to 2-3 on the year.
The boys A team won 48-9 to improve to 4-2 after defeating rival North Penn 51-11 on Tuesday night. Collin Pietropola led the team in scoring with 14 points and Dalton Prough had eight.
"The boys played team basketball tonight," said head coach Ed Hamm. "We still have a few things that need attention, but hopefully we can take care of those issues at practice."
In the B game the Hornets won 24-15.
Both teams will be back in action on Friday, March 7 as they host Williamson.
