The Wellsboro Middle School basketball teams picked up a pair of wins Tuesday night over Liberty.
The girls defeated Liberty 29-11 behind 9 points, 5 steals, and 8 rebounds from Rachael Tuttle. Emma Poirier, Alyssa Yungwirth (10 steals), and Brianne Keane had 6 points each, and Lizzie Poirier had 2 points, 4 steals, and 4 rebounds.
"We played great defense in the first half, holding Liberty scoreless for the half, but we didn’t catch the ball well and had a lot of missed layups," said head coach Darrell Morris. "In the second half, our girls ran our offense pretty well and did a better job of finishing at the basket."
In the girls B game, the Lady Hornets won an exciting game in which they came from behind in the fourth quarter for a 11-8 win to improve their record to 5-4 on the year.
The win improves the girls' record to 13-3 on the year.
The boys team improved to 10-3 following a 56-15 win. Johnathan Rowland and Collin Pietropola each had 13 points on the night, Aidan Moore and Alex Kozuhowski added 6, and Brandyn Tuttle pitched in 5.
In the boys B game, the Hornets won 16-12.
The girls will be back in action on Thursday, March 20 while the boys are back on Friday, March 21 as both teams travel to North Penn.
