The Wellsboro Middle School girls basketball team defeated Williamson 18-15 to capture the NTL Tournament championship on Saturday, March 29.
The Lady Hornets started the day by beating Williamson's B team 38-0 in the first round, and then beat Liberty 35-4 in the second round before taking the crown.
For the day Lizzie Poirier had 24 points, Emma Poirier and Rachael Tuttle scored 14 points, Sydney Tremper and Brianne Keane had 12 points, Jillian Graver added 9 points, Liz Johns contributed 4 points, and Alyssa Yungwirth had 2 points.
Dani Hunt and Hayley Widows also contributed and played well in the first two games despite not scoring.
"Achieving 1st place in the NTL Tournament at Williamson was a nice way to cap our season," said head coach Darrell Morris. "Our girls went 19-3 this year, took 3rd place at the Wyalusing Tournament and 1st place in this final tournament.
"We had a tough loss to Loyalsock on March 1st, and I talked to the girls about trying to run the table and win our final 13 games, and these girls went out and did it. This group of girls have a lot of potential. My hope is that they stick with it, work in the off-season, and play together through high school."
WellsboroAthletics.com would like to congratulate Coach Morris and the Middle School girls on a fantastic season.
