The Wellsboro Middle School basketball teams each defeated Mansfield Friday night to wrap up the end of the 2013-14 regular season.
The girls A team defeated Mansfield 37-10 for their 10th straight win. Rachael Tuttle led all scorers with 11 points and 10 rebounds, Sydney Tremper had 8 points, Lizzie Poirier had 6 points, Emma Poirier and Brianne Keane had 4 points each, Jillian Graver and Liz Johns had 2 points each, while Alyssa Yungwirth added 6 steals.
"I was very happy with our man to man defense tonight and we created a lot of good offensive opportunities by taking away passing lanes and playing strong help defense," said head coach Darrell Morris. "Our girls also did a good job running our offensive sets and getting good scoring opportunities each possession."
The B team also won 27-8 to conclude the season with 7 wins and 4 losses.
"The B team has really improved the last few weeks of the season and had a very impressive showing tonight against Mansfield under coach Kristen West."
In the boys game, the Hornets' A team beat Mansfield 38-15 for their eighth straight win. Collin Pietropola led all Hornets with 9 points, Dalton Prough and Quinn Henry each had 7, and Cole Cavanaugh had 6 on the night.
"Everybody played phenomenal defense tonight," said head coach Ed Hamm. "We were patient on offense and played our game. It's fun to see everybody playing together as a team."
The boys B team also won 19-16.
With the wins the girls improve to 16-3 overall while the boys improve to 14-3. Both teams will be in action for the final time today. The boys host the Wellsboro tournament while the girls are on the road at the Williamson tournament.
