The Wellsboro Lady Hornet basketball team had a three-game win streak snapped Saturday night as they lost to Athens, 35-26 in NTL Divsion 1 play.
Athens got out of the gate early and held a 15-2 lead after the first quarter, and was up 23-9 at halftime before the Lady Hornets turned up the intensity and cut the deficit to 26-20 after three quarters after outscoring Athens 11-3 in the third. Athens scored 8 points in the fourth quarter to the Lady Hornets' 6 to hold on for the victory.
"The girls fought hard, and I'm proud of the way they came back in the second half," said head coach John Davis.
Sophomore Sarah Ingerick led the team with 13 points, Junior Jordan Butters had 5, Sophomore Alexa Singer added 4, Junior Peyton Wilson scored 3, and Sophomore Jada Jackson had one.
In the J.V. game, the Lady Hornets lost 22-13.
With the loss, the Lady Hornets fall to 6-6 (1-1 NTL Division 1). The team will be back in action on Monday, January 13 as they travel to Mansfield.
