After leading 16-13 in the first half, the Wellsboro Varsity girls basketball team got outscored in the second half to fall to Athens, 37-31.
Athens outscored the Lady Hornets 12-6 and 12-9 in the second half to comeback and top Wellsboro in NTL Division 1 action.
Junior Jordan Butters led the team and was the only Hornet in double figures on the night with 10 points. Sophomore Sarah Ingerick scored 8 points, Sophomore Alexa Singer had 7, Sophomore Jada Jackson had 4 points, and Senior Brooke Kohler had two points to finish the scoring.
Jackson also grabbed 8 rebounds and made 5 steals. Ingerick recorded a block and Junior Peyton Wilson had three assists.
In the J.V. game the Lady Hornets lost 25-22. Sophomore Jenny Young led the team with 9 points.
With the loss the Lady Hornets fall to 9-10 (4-3 NTL Division 1). The team will be back in action on Saturday, February 1 as they travel to Troy.
